My first "real" post

Ok, I know it has been a long time since I wrote. I admit, I've been just plain lazy lately. Every time I think of writing I find excuses not to. Why is that? I don't know. I must admit I am a little nervous about writing in this blog. I haven't decided yet if I like the idea of writing about my family and putting it on the internet so anyone who wants to find it can read it. I've looked at other people blogs, and they just turn into such a big mess: thoughts all over the place; links everywhere; and advertisements. Writing in a blog feels like selling out to me, like I'm trying to cash in on writing. Well, we will see how it goes after a few weeks. I have actually have thought of lots of things I want to write about, at times, but when I sit down to actually do it, my mind empties and nothing comes out.

I had a funny thought a few weeks ago. We were thinking about my parents who still have dial-up internet. I was talking to them about this and how they can't see many of the newer aspects of the Internet 2.0 with dial-up. They can't see many of the pictures that we or our kids post. They certainly can't see all the video being posted, like the one below of Aida crawling. They even admitted that they still have a phone in one of their bedrooms with the old spin-dialer. I thought how it used to be that when I was a kid and we went to Grandma's house, we got a taste of the old days by helping to collect eggs or milk cows. I had to laugh when I thought how now days our kids, or really our grandkids, will go to Grandma and Grandpa Joe's house to see how things were like in the "old days" and see their dial-up internet on a real dial-up phone.

I've been asked if I am going to post links to all our grandkid's videos. I guess I could, but I only posted the one below because it wasn't posted out there any where else. We already have links to our kid's blogs and the grandkid's videos (to the left), so I don't think I will post an announcement every time a new one is loaded up. Be sure to check the links often if you want to see the latest.

Brandi and I have been relearning what it is like to be a kid again waiting for Christmas. Remember when it was two months away and that seemed like forever? We've noticed that the older we get the faster time seems to go by. We have no problem thinking about next Christmas right now, and making plans because we know the time will go by so fast and will be here before we know it. We already have reservations to be in California next year for my parents 60th wedding anniversary. I can't believe it has already been 10 years since the big 50th anniversary where all of us kids and grandkids were there and put on a big party for them. We aren't planning a big party this year, we will just get together as a family to celebrate with them at home this time.

Anyway, as quickly as that time is approaching, time has WAY slowed down from now until April. Monica, Zack and especially Aida, will be here and then we are going to Phuket, Thailand for a week for fun in the sun at our fabulous Marriott Vacation Club condo. Ever since we started planning this we have had major "can't wait"itis. The time is DRAGGING by. Only about 35 more days to go now, but we are so excited we can't wait.

Partly, we have been able to deal with this because Brandi has been so busy getting ready for her Far East Model UN conference that starts today. She is in charge of putting on the whole thing and has been pulling out her hair trying to get everything arranged. It will all be over in four days, so I can't wait, and I'm sure neither can Brandi. Then we only have 30 more days until AIDA! (oh, and Monica and Zack) :-)

Well, that is enough for my first post. Let me know what you think.
